Everlasting Banner

"The Everlasting" is a storyline that comes out of the Kingdom of Quel'Athillien in the Hinterlands. This mini-story is intended to engage the player as much as possible, allowing for their choices to shape the flow of the story as well as impact the overall direction of the Quel'Athillien story altogether. This mini series was shaped to allow for those who may not be able to make every event still feel as if they have contributed something and have found a niche for character growth as well as practice in writing outside of events as well. At the end of each event, there will be time for feedback, as well as feedback welcomed in a separate thread where you can express how you felt the events went and how the story is shaping. The contents below will help you, the player, understand the world you are preparing to engage in.

OOC Information

"The Everlasting" mini series was created to indulge both the player and the character in a story where their decisions ultimately shape the flow of the story. Events are posted up in advance, giving folks the opportunity to determine if they can participate or not. Numbers will determine the way the roll system works as well, as you will see further down. Those who participate in events have a more active hand in deciding how the flow of the story will go, whereas those who cannot make it will be allowed to choose one of three quests.

Quests are writing prompts that encourage the player to write about the things their character does while being part of the story, even if they are not there physically in-game. Each quest gives a scenario where the character must make a decision of some kind that will ultimately play further into the character's development within the story and their own ability to shape it, even from a distance. Quests can be for in-game rewards as well as story-rewards that can extend to other events within the Quel'Athillien storyline.

If you can't make an event but wish to participate, get in contact with Rennali so that you can be given the writing prompt. All quest write-ups should be placed in THIS THREAD. No write-up will be judged, though we do ask that you put some time and thought into the piece you submit.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

The History of Alexander Greypoole and the Secession of the Sky Peaks

An excerpt from ‘The Golden Kingdom of the Phoenix: A Compilation of Histories of Quel’Athillien’:

…[pg. 344] and so it was asked many a time what had befallen Duran the Oathbreaker, now so named for his abdication of his ducal appointment without apology. The Queen’s eyes grew everdark, sinking into the shiftless void as she did not deign a response; her lips unfettered and as resolute as the woman herself…

After the abdication of the first Duke of Northwinter, the duke’s right-hand manservant Alexander Greypoole began to work toward the attempt of keeping Northwinter together while under the belief that his sword sovereign had been forcibly removed by the Queen during a disagreement. It had been said that Duke Duran had gone to the Seat of the Phoenix to discuss new laws for Northwinter with the Queen, and in her frustration with his need to be independent from the kingdom, had him killed in the night -- a rumor that had resounded well with Greypoole, who was an opportunist himself. Using this as a basis for his operations, Greypoole convinced the starving folks of Northwinter to shut down the forges, effectively preventing armor and weapons from being sent anywhere in the kingdom and leaving them exposed during the First Forsaken Incursion of 630 K.C.

In desperation to keep the forges alive, the Queen began to make small negotiations with blacksmiths and forge-keepers in the southern reaches of Northwinter in the Gray Hills. During many of these talks, the Queen set a Baron to ensure that the government of the kingdom was maintained in the lower reaches until such a time the higher peaks could be reached. While her focus maintained in the Gray Hills, Greypoole continued to feed the starving and paranoid dwellers of Sky Peaks misinformation that there was to be an impending war and those who were loyal to Northwinter should demand the Queen allow them to secede from the kingdom.

In an attempt to force the Queen’s hand in the negotiations, Greypoole sought to kidnap Baron Cornwell’s wife, Charlotte, and keep her as collateral in case the Queen decided to refuse. In a successful mission, the Baron and a band of knights, with help from House Duskfeather, were able to extract Charlotte from certain death, forcing Greypoole to flee into the mountains and go silent. In his silence, Baron Cornwell and the Queen sought to bring the villagers to heel, only managing to do so with a laughable few, leaving the rest to follow Greypoole into the mountains where it would be difficult to reach them.

NORTHWINTER EVERLASTING

[Date]: December 13th @ 9:00 PM

[Location]: The Den of the Wolf, Northwinter (We will be using Wintergarde Keep in Northrend as the proxy)

[Introduction]: The world is changing, and far more rapidly than anyone would like. In some level of desperation, Alexander Greypoole has reached out to Harpin Cornwell, writing a missive of the need to meet and finally end the long cycle of suffering that has happened on both sides. There is an underlying chaos in his letter, but as a show of faith, he has elected to come with only some of the folks of the Sky Peaks to discuss something they had found in the heart of the mountain. Within the depths of the high peaks, they discovered a Titan cave, a pair of doors that exude a power unlike anything they could readily describe.

THE CATACOMBS

[Date]: December 17th @ 8:00 PM

[Location]: Tomb of the Ice Giants, Northwinter (We will be using the cave north of K3 in Northwinter as a proxy)

[Introduction]: Alexander Greypoole has given the Magi a map to follow into the maw of the caverns that will take them to the 'Heart of the Mountain.' Once there, the people of the Sky Peaks villages - who have been evacuated from their homes because of the snows - begin to act strangely. They are sick, dirty and starving, and seem to now have acquired a need to protect the annexed chamber that was discovered. Some of them are reasonable, but more and more of them are driven into chaotic ramblings and even violent need to prevent anyone from getting inside the doors.

QUESTS

NORTHWINTER EVERLASTING

1. “Blethril’s Little Box of Horrors” -- In this quest, you are tasked with going into the deep places of the mountains, following the Titanic inscriptions along the interior wall of the caverns. It speaks of a prophetic box said to contain ‘the Heart of the Mountain;’ an ingot of metal so powerful that it can be forged to do great things, or truly terrible, horrible things. You, as the hero, must decide if this ingot will be destroyed into the chasm of the great mountain or brought to a forge to be shaped into a weapon.

2. “The Labyrinth” -- In this quest, you have been separated from the group, but not by your own volition. You stopped to perhaps tie your shoe, or look at the beautiful stalagmites within the maw of the cavern, and suddenly, you find yourself in a labyrinth of sorts. The further you go, the more narrow and dangerous the path becomes until finally you come to a clearing with no discernable exit. From the shadows emerges three men who appear to be enchanted; their expressions horribly contorted and they look upon you with sinister intentions, demanding all of your gold. You as the hero must find your way out either through fighting, negotiating, or something else.

3. “What You Have There” -- In this quest, you have elected to take part in archiving the many items that dwell within the mountain. In your brief exploration of the caverns, you discover three objects: 1. An elder wand that gives the ability to transform its host into an animal of their choosing, 2. A bright sword that was once rumored to have belonged to a forgotten god of war, 3. An arcanium scroll that allows the individual to be fluent in nearly every language known on Azeroth. As the hero, you are only able to claim one of these things to take back with you and research. You must choose wisely for there are drawbacks to each item that you must overcome. The wand changes you into an animal, but if you stay in that form too long, you begin to lose yourself and become the animal. The sword of the forgotten god of war does not answer to those who are too weak to use it and may try to destroy you. The arcanium scroll teaches you to be fluent in speaking languages, but does not teach you how to understand them when spoken to.

Roll System

NOTE: All HP for players starts at 55 HP.

There will be two rolls: Attack and Defense. These dice are based off of which role you choose from: Tanking, Damage or Healing. If the attack number is higher than the defense number, you will hit for the difference between the two.

Example: Larrendias (Damage) attacks Demon 1 (Tank). Larrendias rolls a 1D10 and gets a 7. Demon 1 rolls a 1D10 and gets a 4. The difference is 3, so Larrendias hits Demon 1 for 3.

Example 2: Larrendias (Damage) is attacked by Demon 1 (Tank). Demon 1 rolls a 1D10 and gets a 5. Larrendias rolls a 1D10 for defense and gets a 5. Neither hit, so it is a miss for both.

Should an attack hit for a 9 or a 10, it will multiply 2 to the attack making it an 18 or 20 against the defense roll. Similarly, if a heal hits for a 9 or 10, it will multiply by two to the person being healed.

Rounds will be started by a perception check of a 1D20 to determine order. Rounds are separated into Player Attacks / Heals and Enemy Attacks / Heals. Players who are not engaged by the enemy will have a “Bonus Round” where they may make one extra attack.
